Bakersfield, CA – Kern County Public Health Services will host the Call to Action for a Healthy Kern Summit – “Enhancing Access to Health” at the DoubleTree by Hilton Bakersfield. Approximately 300 community members are expected to attend.

The community is invited to exchange ideas, hear about local efforts, and learn how we can take concrete steps to change how health happens at home, school, and work. Participants will learn about strategies to increase resident access to affordable, clean, and safe drinking water as well as local efforts to improve indoor air quality and much more.

“Some exciting work is being done locally to improve the health of our community,” said Matthew Constantine, Director of Public Health Services. “The community will have an opportunity to learn from each other and to not only take back ideas to their workplace, organizations and families, but to work together in order to improve the health of our county.”

Nine years ago, when Kern County was faced with the reality that obesity and chronic disease had reached epidemic proportions in our community, residents, community organizations and local agencies came together to make a difference and the Call to Action for a Healthy Kern was born. The Call to Action Summit is open to the public and attendance is free. For more information or to RSVP, please call (661) 321-3000, email or visit
