Death Certificates

How to Order a Death Certificate :

  1. Death must have occurred in Kern County
  2. Death certificates may be obtain from Vital Records at Public Health for years of death from 1993 to present.
    Certificates for deaths occurring prior to 1993 can be obtained from the County Recorder’s Office
    or the State Office of Vital Records
  3. Fees:
    $21.00 per copy for both certified or informational death certificates
    $18.00 per copy for both certified or informational fetal death certificates
  4. Determine whether you can obtain an authorized (certified copy) or informational copy. Download pamphlet for obtaining copies of death certificates.
  5. There are two ways you can request a death certificate
    1. By Mail
      Complete the following form:

      1. Application for Death Record
      2. Mail check (DO NOT SEND CASH), order form to:Kern County Office of Vital Records

    2. In-Person
      Monday – Friday excluding holidays
