Are you submitting paper claims to Kern County’s Emergency Medical Services Fund? Two-thirds of EMS Fund claims are now submitted electronically! Filing your claims electronically provides several advantages over paper claims – see box.
The EMS Department processed nearly 37,000 claims last year, without having a staff member dedicated solely to that task. Many of the approximately 13,000 paper claims we received last year sat in drawers until data could be entered manually, just in time to meet our payment schedule deadlines. While awaiting data entry, paper claims are not easily accessible for status inquiries.
However, the status of pending electronic claims can be confirmed in seconds with a few keystrokes.
Filing claims electronically with the EMS Department is no more trouble than filing claims with Medicare. We use the same Medicare X12 format, and our IT staff can resolve nearly any problem. Electronic claims may be submitted to us on CDs, or posted to our secure ftp server.
