The Food Program assures that food is safe and wholesome and has been produced under conditions and by practices which are safe and sanitary. Staff review and inspect retail food facilities for the proper food handling practices, the personal health and hygiene of the food service employees, methods of food protection, verify the source of food products and the general sanitation of the food facilities.

All retail food handling operations are inventoried, permitted and regularly inspected. Food related complaints and incidents involving food contamination are solicited and investigated. Plans for new or remodeled food facilities are reviewed and inspected during the construction phase to ensure compliance with the California Health and Safety Code.
