Position Information

Examinations:
Appraisal (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising the applicant's training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position. Appraisal can be based on any of the following: investigation, oral examination and/or review of application.

Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.

Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:
• Possession of an earned doctoral degree in a biological science, laboratory science or related field from an accredited college or university within one (1) year of the date of hire.
• Possession of a valid Public Health Microbiologist (PHM) certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Laboratory Field Services (LFS); OR Approval from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Laboratory Field Services (LFS) to begin training in as a Public Health Microbiologist in a State or local Public Health Laboratory.

Incumbents may be exposed to pathogenic organisms, acids and caustic or volatile chemicals. Incumbents must be willing to be immunized against various communicable diseases, including rabies, in order to handle specimens
