Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a contagious respiratory illness that cause by a virus. Symptoms of illness include fever, cough, sore throat, chills, fatigue, body aches, and headache. Illness can range from mild to severe and can result in hospitalization or death. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk of developing severe flu and complications.
The best method to prevent getting the flu is by getting the flu vaccine every year, washing hands frequently, and avoiding those who may be ill. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends an annual flu vaccine for everyone over 6 months of age.
