Water Well Site Location Requirements

All new water wells will be required to have the proposed site location verified by the Environmental Health Services Department (EHSD) prior to approval of the water well application.

EHSD staff will ensure that the proposed location is properly verified. The following should be in place:

  1. The site map submitted with the Water Well Application should be accurate and clearly indicate all setbacks required from the well.
  2. A stake at least three (3) feet tall marked with fluorescent paint or a ribbon and labeled “water well site” must be located at the proposed well location.
  3. The proposed well location site must be accessible for inspection. All gates must be unlocked and all animals secured.

The following list must be used to insure that no potential hazards are present:

Agricultural Well or Industrial Well 200 feet
Another Well (except hard rock) 100 feet
Class I, II, III Waste Disposal Well 200 feet

Future development permits may not be issued unless recorded legal access to the property can be demonstrated (KCOC 17.04.120). Obtain access information from the Kern County Engineering and Survey Services Department.
